History: CLASSIFIED has been closely connected to CLASSIFIED almost since shortly after he became Iron Man. Their friendship was so close that he knew CLASSIFIED secret identity and became an executive in CLASSIFIED.
CLASSIFIED took over the identity and duties of Iron Man when CLASSIFIED hit a low period in his life, physically and mentally. As Iron Man, he served as CLASSIFIED bodyguard and as a member of the Avengers, never letting on that he was not always Iron Man. CLASSIFIED eventually took the armor back, relieving CLASSIFIED of the burden. When CLASSIFIED, CLASSIFIED was named CLASSIFIED of CLASSIFIED and became Iron Man once again, eventually acquiring the War Machine armor. He was unaware that CLASSIFIED was alive, and was absolutely furious when he found out. He resigned from CLASSIFIED and severed his friendship with CLASSIFIED, taking the War Machine armor with him.
As War Machine, CLASSIFIED actions were disagreed with by CLASSIFIED and CLASSIFIED. CLASSIFIED confronted CLASSIFIED for the plans for his War Machine armor so he could repair them, but CLASSIFIED refused, saying that the warranty was void since CLASSIFIED misused the armor in his opinion. The two came to blows, and CLASSIFIED was defeated when CLASSIFIED activated a safeguard in his War Machine armor, shutting it down. CLASSIFIED later obtained a new, alien armor which bonded with him, making him stronger than the original War Machine armor had. He allied with various members of the Avengers and a younger version of CLASSIFIED to stop CLASSIFIED, who had been revealed to be working for Kang and had framed Hawkeye for murder. He watched as CLASSIFIED eventually broke from Kang's control and sacrificed his life. His attitude about CLASSIFIED changed, CLASSIFIED returned to CLASSIFIED, which was soon bought out by the CLASSIFIED.
CLASSIFIED discovered that CLASSIFIED was trying to gain access to some of CLASSIFIED old technology. Rather than seeing it fall into their hands and to preserve the legacy of his dead friend, he downloaded his alien armor into the computer system on a "seek and destroy" mission, purging all the data on CLASSIFIED technology and losing his alien armor. CLASSIFIED managed to get his old War Machine armor back and left CLASSIFIED. He joined the Hulk's Avengers, while trying to start up a company of his own in his civilian life, which he left the Avengers to pursue shortly before the Hulk's regression. CLASSIFIED returned to the Avengers as a favor to CLASSIFIED, to investigate his suspicion that the Avengers stole a prototype funded by his new company, CLASSIFIED. As War Machine, he arrived just in time to help the Avengers destroy a demonic creature loose in their mansion. He reported back to CLASSIFIED what little he discovered and returned to his life. Months later, CLASSIFIED decided to join the Avengers, which were being reformed by the United States government under the leadership of Andromeda. With the Avengers, he came up against Kang once again, finding out that he was even posing as their government liason. The Avengers were framed for his murder and forced to become fugitives. He left the team while they were on the run, becoming fed up with just running.
While the Avengers were away in an alternate reality, their criminal status was revoked, as was CLASSIFIED. For a time, he stayed solo from the Avengers until he encountered Songbird from the Thunderbolts. She explained to him about a coming disaster involving the humans and that they had to warn the Avengers. He went with her and assisted the Avengers with the crisis, remaining with the team afterwards.
